Formations Empty Formations

Alright since all my posts are being stolen anyway I will just repost them as I create them from my forum lol.

here is my latest information about creating optimal formations...

Ok so I'm going to list some of the most popular and successful formations here. The more you deviate from these the
less successful you are likely to be. Any heroes you see are not unique per say, you can use any similar hero in their place.
For example, if you see Heracles being used, Pontus is a suitable replacement.

I subdivide characters basically by their abilities...
Aoe BM
Line/column strike BM
Single Target BM (sally outburst, soul taking arrows, sacred stardust etc.)
Bugler
Dancer
Healer
Tank
Morale suppression

The following formations are based on the premise that a strong offense makes a strong defense, basically kill them so fast they cant fight back.
Formation 1.
This is my formation, I like to use 3 Aoe BM's, one buglar and one single target dps.

Now if I choose to remove the single hit dps for a morale suppression character, this actually not only adds dps
but also gives me a good defense since it limits the enemies ability to cast BM's, thus reducing the damage I take.

While the morale suppression seems extremely useful it doesn't work on characters that don't use morale, so
mechanical heroes, buglers/dancers, healers.
as seen here, it is limited in its damage output and can end up limiting your progress,

although it worked out for me in the last video, it can be much worse depending on the setups.

Formation 2. (The infamous cheaty formation)
This setup is taking advantage of the fact that morale is not limited, and as morale increases so does damage.
The idea is too use as many morale regens as possible and have them focus on one BM hero, either Aoe or line/column strike.

http://b2.clapalong.com/?fid=N2010123021405463

In this case he mixes in a mechanical hero in the front for a line of defense, this also ensures the Dancer only targets the BM hero.

Here is a similar setup only using A column strike hero instead of an aoe

The column/line strike heroes do a good bit more damage then the Aoe heroes, but you have to hope they are positioned correctly.

The formation that is one step beyond these is using one BM hero then stacking 3 buglers and one dancer, it boosts the damage even higher,

As you can see in most of the videos healers and tanks get eaten pretty fast, however this is not to say they are not useful.
I personally believe you dont want to look at using a healer or tank until later in the game when they are more effective.

Here is an incredibly annoying combonation used by an npc
http://b1.clapalong.com/?fid=N2011011530303136

A morale suppression drains your morale, then you get hit, then a healer heals the units, then a bugler buffs the suppression to be cast again...
Ridiculous, this of course only works for the computer because it will always be defending. You on the other hand do not get this luxury,
Ties on offense count as a loss. But the computer is showing what a standard person at this level can be healing for and how it can be beneficial,
but you really need all your stats up to par, and you limit your damage in doing so.

An alternative is to sacrifice one defense character, or morale booster for a healer.

Formation 3.
This is similar to the first two, except that you use a dancer, secondly use a BM hero, and for the remaining 3 spots
you want to use mechanical heroes. This forces the dancer to constantly target the single BM hero to use their BM each round
and also uses decent dps and defense from the mechanical heroes.

Another variation switching mechanical heroes for mages since they dont use morale.

Although I would personally lean towards mechanical heroes for their survivability.

and another variation on a theme...
http://b1.clapalong.com/?fid=N2011011623343700

In using these formations you want to focus on certain things....
1.Strong mounts for your BM heroes
2.Magic penetration tech
3. magic resistance tech, as they formations are popular
4. your buglers/dancers are about survivability get them cloaks/chest and horns
5. Place your buglers/dancers in the middle somewhere, you don't want to lose them right off the bat
but if they are the last thing standing, you already lost.
6. Boars head formation, I would go with this for increased damage from BM's however, the formations is setup
to take a beating from line and column strikes. Testudo or other defense based formations are suitable replacements.
